Hospice of Laramie's Bereavement Support Services
An important goal of Hospice care, is to continue to provide support during bereavement. Our bereavement counselor provides individual counseling sessions and a weekly Bereavement Support Group. Hospice also sends a monthly bereavement newsletter to the loved ones of past Hospice patients.
Additionally, Hospice offers two other support groups: the Caregiver Support Group and a Young Adult Bereavement Support Group designed to benefit students at the University of Wyoming and others who feel more comfortable interacting with others closer in age.
The Caregiver Support Group meets every Tuesday from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at the Eppson Center for Seniors located at 1560 No. 3rd Street. We know how difficult it is to care for someone who is terminally ill, and hope this time with other caregivers will be therapeutic.
The Young Adult Bereavement Support Group meets each Thursday from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at the University of Wyoming Student Union. This group is open to all young adults who live, work or are attending school or training in Albany County.
The weekly Bereavement Support Group is open to adult community members who experienced the loss of a loved one, even if they did not use Hospice care. The support group is on-going and is free. Hospice is dedicated to providing a safe place for grieving people to share with, and give support to one another. The support group takes place at the Hospice of Laramie office each Monday evening and meets from 5:15 pm until 6:45 pm. If you are interested in attending the support group, please contact Hospice of Laramie at 745-9254. Ask to speak to the bereavement counselor to set up an appointment to discuss attending group.
Grief & Bereavement
Grief
The normal process of reacting both internally and externally to the perception of loss. Each individual experiences grief differently and there is no specific stage or process that everyone follows when grieving. Grief is not a linear process and because we are all in different developmental stages, this will also effect our grieving.
Bereavement
The period after a loss during which grief is experienced and mourning occurs.
Mourning
The process by which people adapt to a loss including different cultural customs, rituals or rules.
